The 3devo Filament Maker is a laboratory-scale single-screw filament extrusion system designed for research, material development, and small-batch filament production. The instrument enables users to convert polymer pellets, flakes, recycled plastics, or custom polymer formulations into high-quality filament suitable for fused filament fabrication (FFF/FDM) 3D printing.

The system provides precise control over extrusion parameters, including four independently controlled heating zones, screw speed, cooling, and filament winding. Integrated diameter monitoring allows continuous feedback to produce consistent filament dimensions.

2. Principle

The 3devo Filament Maker operates using a single-screw extrusion process. Polymer feedstock is introduced through the hopper and conveyed through a rotating screw inside a heated barrel. As the material progresses through the extrusion zones, it is melted, mixed, homogenized, and pressurized before exiting through a precision die.

After extrusion, the filament passes through a controlled cooling path and an optical diameter measurement system. The puller and spooler maintain a constant take-up speed, allowing production of filament with uniform diameter suitable for FDM/FFF 3D printers.

Critical processing parameters include:

  • Temperature profile across multiple heating zones
  • Screw rotation speed

  • Cooling conditions
  • Die geometry

These parameters collectively determine melt homogeneity, dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and final filament quality.

3. Data Interpretation
